LGBTI Equal Rights Association for Western Balkans and Turkey
On Monday, 29th August, at 12 o’clock, an organized and peaceful gathering was held in front the Embassy of Turkey in Belgrade in honor and memory of Hande Kader, prominent trans and sex worker’s rights activists from Turkey who was brutally murdered on August 8th in Isanbul.
Activists and participants demanded Turkish authorities to find the perpetrtors of this crime and to adequately prosecute them. Participants honoured the life and work of Hande Kader and reminded everyone that any form of discrimination, violence and crime, including those aginst LGBTI people, should be sanctioned by law.
Next to the photograph of Hande Kader, flowers and candles were laid. People stood in silence with messages against violence towards LGBTI people and rainbow and trans flags.
The protest iwasorganized by Serbian organizations Gayten-LGBT fighting for the improvement of the position and rights of trans and intersex people and Da se zna dealing with reporting LGBTI human rights abuse and hate crime. The event was attended by civil society representatives in Serbia. Media and general public were adequately informed about the event.
In their message organizers added that: “With this gathering we would like to honor the life and work of Hande Kader and remind everyone that any form of discrimination, violence and crime, including those committed against LGBTI people, should be sanctioned by law.”
