Homophobia and internalized homophobia, qualitative research in Serbia

Topic - Homophobia / Identity / LGBT / Violence
Country - Serbia
Resource Type - Research Report / Study
Language - SERBIAN
Year - 2016

The purpose of this research was a more detailed and extensive study of the motives, fears and prejudice
forming the basis of homophobia and internalised homophobia, to establish similarities and differences in adoption
and reproduction of homophobic attitudes by heterosexual and homosexual people (gays, lesbians and bisexuals), as
well as the manners in which the existing attitudes towards homosexuality and homosexual people shape the lives of
homosexual people and influence their position in the society. Homophobia is determined here in the most general
manner as a negative attitude towards homosexuality and homosexual people. In case of homosexual people it is
manifested in their attitude towards themselves, as a negative attitude towards their own homosexuality and other
LGB people known as internalised homophobia.
